How do I start my videos so people actually stop scrolling and watch?

Start your video by making your topic immediately and powerfully relevant to what the person watching is experiencing in their life right now.

Your video’s opening, or “hook,” has one job: to answer the viewer’s unspoken question, “What’s in it for me?”. Many experts make the mistake of starting with a generic introduction or referencing a previous video, which instantly loses a new viewer’s interest because you should always assume someone is watching you for the first time. A powerful hook connects your expertise to their present reality. For instance, a client wanted to talk about how childhood decisions shape our lives. Instead of a theoretical intro, we crafted the hook: “The place you’re at today was decided by the child that you were”. This is compelling because it takes an abstract concept and ties it directly to the viewer’s current life, making them eager to understand more.

Action Step: Before your next recording, force yourself to brainstorm and write down 10 different opening lines for your video. The first few might feel generic, but by pushing yourself, you’ll unlock a more powerful and relevant hook. This is the fastest way to master the skill of grabbing your audience’s attention.

Your expertise is the solution to someone’s problem. A strong hook is the bridge that connects them to it, turning passive scrollers into engaged potential clients.
