Cut through Jargon: Keep it simple

Prathamesh Krisang

My allergy to “jargons” seems to be getting worse as I am getting older.

The most important things that you want to communicate can be explained in 5th Grade English (metaphorical). If not, you’re going to have a tough time.

I am guilty of using jargons. And whenever I did, I realized it was because I did not understand the concept well enough to simplify it.

Most professionals today thrive on using jargons. That makes their bosses/clients think they know what they are talking about.

But when Albert Einstein says “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.”, you can’t tell me your ideas are more complicated than Theory of Relativity.

Be obsessed about stripping as much jargon from your language as possible. Some people may think you are speaking basic stuff. But it will also attracted wiser, sensible people in your network and keep others out.
